Challenge

The Who have amassed dozens of hits over sixty years of songwriting, and their loyal fans deserved excellent tonality, energy, and coverage for their final opportunity at hearing a live performance. Precision in the vertical plane and exceptional on- and off-axis response in the horizontal plane were paramount for the tour, which took place across a variety of venues, both open-air and arena.

Solution

Eighth Day Sound deployed the Cohesion system, which used CO12 on the mains and side hangs. When the venue called for it, the 270° hangs used CO10. The infill and outfill speakers were also stacks of three CO10 each, placed atop ground-stacked CP218 in cardioid configuration. Four forward-facing CP218 were flown per side as well. An additional four CP118+ were centered on the ground between the infill to provide low end for the fans standing up front. Finally, six CF28 were placed across the stage for front fill. Significantly, the show was powered by new Cohesion amplifier technology for high performance and quick transient response.

Result

Audiences across North America were treated to a spectacular show that was stuffed with chart-topping hits from The Who’s extensive catalog, including “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Who Are You,” and “See Me, Feel Me.” “This is back to the roots,” summarized FOH Engineer Robert Collins. The sell-out crowds enjoyed the full-venue coverage and crisp, clear intelligibility provided by the Cohesion PA.

“It’s a great PA. It goes up quickly, the footprint is small, and it’s a pleasure to work with. It’s a rock-and-roll PA!”
